The McMaster Gallery is seeking Solo and Group Exhibition Proposals for the 2017-2018 academic year. The gallery resides in the University of South Carolina’s School of Visual Art and Design located in downtown Columbia, South Carolina. The gallery has about 900 square feet of space with over 140 linear feet of wall space.

Proposals will be accepted through September 9th, 2016 and works in all media will be considered

Bright Door offers a ten-day residency for artists, scholars and community leaders.  Located in the Lowcountry of Beaufort, SC, one of the many Sea Islands along the South Carolina coastline, this five-room 1,000 sq. ft. cottage in a racially diverse neighborhood is set within a residential community known as Pigeon Point.

This comfortable cottage has a quiet backyard and kind neighbors. It has plenty of natural light, and is equipped with overhead fans in each room, AC and Heating system, and cooking facilities.

Founded with the purpose of encouraging the development of creative ideas and projects, the residency allows for private use of the cottage and is geared towards those with the maturity and desire to explore the community and the environment independently.

The ten days are intended for retreat, research, and the drafting of creative projects.  Artists and researchers particularly interested in environmental studies, plein air painting, landscape art, drawing, composing, writing, research of Gullah culture, The Civil War, Slavery, Reconstruction are great fits for this residency, as are leaders in all fields looking for inspiration in their work. However, the residency is not restricted to those areas, so all are welcome to apply.

Residency: HUB-BUB Artist-in-the-Community, Spartanburg, South Carolina

HUB-BUB is partnering with the Spartanburg County Public Libraries to host an artist-in-residence for the length of 11 months. The artist’s time will be divided between their own artistic projects and a generous amount of community work with the Spartanburg County Public Libraries.

The library itself provides a safe public space for engaging a wide demographic of the Spartanburg community. The community work can span everything from classes, workshops, curation, art projects featuring members of the community, etc. The requirements are flexible to allow for creative freedom and because all work will be guided and supported by a Projects Committee made up of employees of the two host organizations.

The resident will be expected to dedicate 20 hours a week to their community work. During the first weeks of the residency this may be as simple as attending community events and meeting leaders from various sectors in Spartanburg.

The artist’s living expenses will be covered, including an apartment, all utilities, and a monthly stipend of $750.

This is a very wide theme and you don’t have to take it literally, we travel many roads in life that are not asphalt. Color or BW, analog, digital or antique processes, photographers of all skill levels and locations are welcome.
