As a way to deepen McColl Center’s visitor experience and attract new visitors, the Center is requesting proposals that activate an artist’s studio at McColl Center with an innovative participatory experience. The project should be activated using an arts-based installation/project that is participatory in nature. A successful project should invite the public to actively engage as cultural participants while furthering the mission of McColl Center. The project can be designed with collaborators, in conjunction with previous works of art, or created as a new body of work. We invite all applicants to use their imagination to create an environment that is welcoming, compelling, and engaging.

The Cress Gallery of Art at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga invites interdisciplinary artists and designers to propose an exhibition for the Spring 2017 portion of our Diane Marek Visiting Artist Series. In conjunction with the installation and opening of the exhibition, Visiting Artists typically spend 5 – 7 days in Chattanooga and participate in a range of activities with students and community members. Artists receive a competitive stipend, round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and meals. Custom promotional material and round trip shipping of artwork are included.

Applicants are encouraged to visit to learn more about the Cress Gallery and the Diane Marek Series and review the range of practices and previous exhibitions of the Series. Submissions for 2 person exhibitions (Double Exposure) for the spring 2017 season are due May 27th, 2016.
Proposals are accepted for single artists and two person shows for our Double Exposure series. Proposals are accepted on a rolling calendar and then reviewed twice yearly, once in early December and again in early June by a panel comprised of Roots & Culture’s Programming Committee including two members of the Chicago arts community from outside the organization.
Proposals are only accepted in electronic format, sent to Single artist submissions are eligible for pairing by our Programming Committee and must include an artist statement not exceeding 300 words and a current CV. We also accept two person show proposals that should include an exhibition statement (statement of intent) not exceeding 300 words and current CVs. All submissions should include image lists and 15- 20 images organized in folders, zip files, or via a third party download/ hosting site (no Google Drive please) or 3-4 linked video clips (or a combination of images and videos). There is a $10 submission fee per proposal, payable by check or Paypal pay HERE. Mailing address is 1034 N Milwaukee Ave. Chicago, IL 60642. Do not expect a confirmation of receipt.
Double Exposure supports primarily Chicago- based artists, comprising at least 2/3 of the program.
Programming is organized 6- 9 months ahead of exhibition dates. Typical exhibitions run for 4-5 weeks. There is a five day installation period before the show. Accepted artists receive a $400 stipend. Roots & Culture also provides photo documentation of the installation. Some budget for shipping is available.
