Call for Art: Handmade & Bound Nashville’s Stitches+Stories, Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, Nashville, TN

The sixth annual edition of Handmade & Bound Nashville, presented by Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, is calling for artist submissions for the festival’s exhibition, Stitches + Stories. Nashville artist can submit works that fits into the theme of  “handmade books of poetry and collage work inspired by the healing power of art, memory and storytelling.” Artist who incorporate fiber art and/or personal essay will be given special consideration. The deadline for submissions is August 30, 2016. The Gallery will be open September 30 through October 14 with an opening reception September 30 at 5-7 pm in the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Gallery.

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) presents the fourth edition of the juried exhibition of artists’ books, The Book as Art, August 19–September 30, 2016. This edition will appear for the first time at Decatur Branch of the DeKalb County Library.  The show’s dates, from August 19 – September 30, 2016, encompass the AJC-Decatur Book Festival dates of September 2–4, 2016, which takes place each Labor Day weekend throughout the City of Decatur. The DAA will sponsor a festive opening on Friday, August 26, 2016.

Call for Art: Reading Room 220, Press Street/Antenna Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana

Open call for proposals for shows in the downstairs Reading Room 220 at Press Street/Antenna Gallery. Press Street’s mission is to promote art and literature. Successful proposals for Reading Room 220 shows will connect these two ideas.

Submissions should include a proposal for the space, an 8 by 8 foot wall. Proposals could be, but are not limited to:

-A curated selection of artists books.

-A chapbook with a writer and artist in mind with samples of both of their works.

-A show developed out of a newly published book.Books are not limited to traditionally published media. We are open to and encourage artists books, zines, book objects, sculptural books, one of a kind, and editioned books, etc.

Shows would be up for 1 month minimum and would have openings coinciding with the second Saturday openings upstairs at Antenna.
